SEND Information Report

Welcome to the Bolton Impact Trust Personal Learning Centre. I am the Academy Lead and I have worked in the Trust for 10 years. I have been an English teacher for 20 years, and prior to joining the service I taught at a mainstream secondary school in Bolton. I have a degree in English and Philosophy from Lancaster University and I am passionate about education. To me, and my staff team, education and self-belief are two of the most important tools we can give to a young person to help shape their future, and the world in which they live. This is why quality education and strong pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do here at BITPLC.

The Bolton Impact Trust Personal Learning Centre offers a bespoke package for students requiring a smaller academic setting which is supportive and nurturing, but which will also challenge and push them to achieve their potential.

Students can study up to 5 GCSEs delivered by experienced mainstream teachers who are adept at delivering their GCSE subjects in a condensed fashion, which ensures that all the key assessment objectives are delivered in the short time that they may have with a student. Our examination results are consistently very good.

Students are taught in small classes and are supported by a Learning Mentor and the subject teacher in each lesson. One to one sessions are also offered to students requiring extra targeted support in a particular skill or subject. Small mastery sessions are offered weekly to help students catch up on missed work or to revisit topics they may not have mastered during the week.

Our strong pastoral care ensures that all of our students are helped to overcome any barriers they have to learning. We are committed to enabling students to flourish and improve their self-esteem and mental health. We offer regular access to a counsellor and regularly monitor students’ well-being. Any issues are tackled quickly and effectively. Enrichment sessions are delivered weekly and are designed to build confidence and self-esteem and to prepare our students for their next step in life. Sessions are delivered on topics such as preparing for college, healthy relationships, keeping healthy and confidence building.

We have strong links with schools and outside agencies who provide further support to our students when necessary. Each student will have regular access to a Careers advisor who will support them in finding and applying for post 16 provision.

All students attending the Bolton Impact Trust Personal Learning Centre can expect to receive a bespoke, quality education and strong pastoral care, which will enable them to achieve their full potential and take the next step to a better future.
